Regularly sweep the courts with a broom or blower to remove foreign material that can stain. This is especially important in the autumn when leaves and pine needles can accumulate on the court surfaces.
Immediately remove standing water after rainfall to prevent mildew and algae growth on the surfaces. This also protects the subbase and extends the life of the surface.
The Importance of Regular Tennis Court Inspections
Keep landscaping away from the courts as much as possible to avoid overgrowth of grass, bushes and trees that may damage or root into the court surface. Also keep lawn fertilizers, insect repellants and weed killers away from the courts as they will stain the surfaces.
Mold and fungus can be a problem on the surface of a court. They can be caused by food or drink spillage, rotting material and decaying organic matter that can then create ideal conditions for the organisms to grow.
If stains occur they should be scrubbed with a soft brush and a mild detergent solution (use 2 parts household bleach with 1 part water) or a cleaning product available from a tennis supply company. Fungus and mildew should be treated annually to help prevent recurrence. Fungicides are also available that can be applied to the court at the beginning of the growing season.
